Winter Wonderland

Winter is full of wonderful things and there are some notable children's books that are best during the winter months on topics ranging from snowy weather to penguins and other animals.

Reading several books on the same topic or theme helps children see patterns in literature, grasp thematic concepts, and learn more about the topic being covered. On my YouTube channel, I purposely group books together into playlists to make it easy to find several books on a single topic or theme.

If you're looking for some fun books to read during these cold days, here are three of my favorite winter books that I have read aloud on my YouTube channel:

The Three Snow Bears by Jan Brett. This book is a fun take on Goldilocks and the Three Bears. As you read it (or watch the video), pay close attention to the illustrations as they tell part of the story that is going on elsewhere. Check out other books by Jan Brett for more fun illustrations.

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. Follow the child in this story as he explores his world after a snowfall. Then, encourage your own children to go out and explore the winter weather. Build a snowman, go sledding, or just make footprints in the snow. Most importantly, have fun!

The Penguin Who Wanted to Fly by Catherine Vase. Have fun reading this whimsical tale about a silly penguin who desperately wanted to fly. Afterwards, check out the rest of the playlist of books about penguins to learn more about these unique birds.
